Suzuki Guitar Lessons

With Dr. Patrick Feely

The Suzuki Method is a proven approach to music education that nurtures every child’s potential in a supportive, encouraging environment. Based on the philosophy that children learn music the same way they learn to speak, students begin by listening and imitating before moving on to music reading.

In our Suzuki guitar program:

  • Learning is gradual and enjoyable, with new skills introduced step-by-step to ensure strong technique and beautiful tone from the start.

  • Parents are active participants, taking a short lesson after their child to learn the basics of guitar and help guide home practice.

  • A positive, fun atmosphere helps students build confidence, focus, and a lifelong love of music.

Lessons are led by Dr. Patrick Feely, an accomplished guitarist and Suzuki-trained educator with over 35 years of teaching experience. He is dedicated to inspiring young players to reach their full potential while making music an enjoyable part of everyday life.

The Suzuki Method

Start young, learn naturally
The Suzuki Method helps children develop musical language and understanding from an early age. Even the youngest learners can thrive with the right guidance.

The Suzuki Triangle: Student • Parent • Teacher

Parents are active participants: they attend lessons, take notes, and even learn to play alongside their child at the beginning stages. This close collaboration strengthens bonds and supports learning at home.

Skilled Teachers Make a Difference

Suzuki teachers are trained not just in music, but in teaching. They connect deeply with students, nurturing both skill and confidence.

Learning by Ear Before Reading Music

Children first absorb the “language of music” through listening and imitation. Interactive games and creative exercises make lessons fun and engaging.

Group Classes & Collaboration

Group lessons teach teamwork, social skills, and create a supportive musical community. Children form friendships while learning together.

Performance Builds Confidence

Early, non-competitive performances help children overcome stage fright. Every child’s unique abilities are encouraged and celebrated.

Key Principles

  • Daily Practice: Short, consistent sessions build confidence and technique.

  • Repertoire-Based Learning: Pieces are carefully selected to develop skills step by step.

  • Listening at Home: Students internalize phrasing, tone, and expression through recordings.

  • Positive Reinforcement: Encouragement fosters a love of music

ENSEMBLE PROGRAM

The community ensembles program seeks to enhance the musical education of all guitarists while at the
same time offering a vehicle to meet new friends and make music together. If you own a classical
guitar, can read music and are looking to play music with others, this group is for you. The ensembles
begin in September, have recitals in the winter and the spring, and meet every other Sunday.

This program was established with the generous support of Dr. Mark and Danielle Del Cantero and
Cedar Springs Chiropractic.  It provides an aspiring guitarist with a concert tour performing for some of our community's most needy and impressionable people. Performing venues include hospitals, retirement homes, hospitals, and schools. Although the recitals are presented free of charge to the organization, the performer is paid a modest stipend by the Society. The performer gains invaluable performance
experience while the audience is allowed to enjoy the beauty
of the classical guitar.
If you would like to help sponsor this series, be considered as a residency performer, or know of an
organization that would benefit from a concert, please contact the coordinator at gsob@rogers.com
